We bid “Arrivederci” to Florence this morning, and put the country of San Marino in our car’s GPS.
In case you’ve never heard of it (who, exactly, HAS heard of it, pray tell?), San Marino is one of three countries in the world that is completely surrounded by another country. In this case, San Marino is entirely surrounded by Italy! Who knew?
It took us FOUR LONG HOURS of traveling harrowing switchback mountain roads to get there! (Ask Mike for the definition of HARROWING!) Everyone in the car was amazed at how beautiful the scenery was, except me! I had to have my eyes closed the entire drive to avoid back seat motion sickness! 🤢
Halfway there, we made a potty stop at a darling little mountain town. The setting was BEAUTIFUL!
Two hours later (🤢), we arrived to the country of San Marino! (John’s 76th country visited!) We actually agreed it was well worth the trip! Here’s where San Marino is, in case you’re wondering!
And on every street corner, we found one of these!
We ate lunch at this cute little cafe, and just when Patte and I were going to browse some shops, John announced it was time to head to IL Borghetto in Tuscany — our home for the next five days! We actually had to call and let them know we would be checking in LATE! Oops!
The road out of San Marino was the ONLY straight road we saw for the next 3.5 hours! (🤢)
We finally arrived at IL Borghetto and it was like old home week! Mind you, John and I stayed here once before—but it was EIGHT YEARS ago! (Thanks, Ian and Julie-Ann, for the recommendation.)
Ahhhh, our time in Tuscany is going to feel and taste soooo GOOD!
Did they use a special yeast? I have heard that some have a yeast that is passed on for years.
ReplyDeleteThey did—it was a block.of yeast. He said we could use our packets of yeast from the States, however, the conversion is tricky. I think we used a teaspoon for three pizzas!
